SCMAT continues our Exclusive series covering the Top 10 S.C. Wrestling Seasons & Teams of All Time.

Unique aspects of this Decade - 2010-2019

The South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) added the 5A classification in 2017.

In this decade, State Duals determined all Wrestling Team State Championships.

In this decade, the Recordbooks were constantly being updated with new leaders in every category ... the COVID-19 public health threat impacted the next decade, causing Recordbook entries to slow down due to a reduction in the number of matches for teams and individuals.

Coach B.D. LaPrad retired as head wrestling coach in 2015 after launching the River Bluff wrestling program when the school opened.

Coach Brad Porter (Cheraw) retired as head wrestling coach after winning 2A-1A State Duals in 2017.

In this decade, three coaches would reach a milestone by coaching team state champions at a second school (see below). Coach Jim Barnes and Coach B.D. LaPrad were the first two coaches to achieve this in prior decades. Derek Strobel would also accomplish this in the current decade (2020-2024).
Chris Strickland - Crescent (2A-1A) - 2006, Belton-Honea Path (3A) 2012, 2021
Chad Singleton - Woodruff (2A-1A) - 2001, Dorman (4A) - 2016
Evan Moxie - Lugoff-Elgin (3A) - 2010, River Bluff (5A) - 2017

In this decade, the first two SC wrestling coaches would be inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Hall Of Fame:
2015 Inductee - Jim Barnes - (Union County, Airport, Rock Hill)
2017 Inductee - B.D. LaPrad - (Bishop England, Irmo, Dutch Fork, Fort Dorchester, River Bluff)

Only two teams managed to have Undefeated Seasons in this decade (see below). This was the fewest teams with Undefeated Seasons in the three decades of State Duals up to this point, and showed the challenge of a perfect dual record.
2018 - West-Oak (3A) - 27-0
2011 - West-Oak (3A) - 36-0

Fifteen (15) teams in this decade would win State Duals, however NOT win the Traditional Championship with highest team points. This was the most of any decade (so far), and shows the difficulty in winning both team championships.

In this decade, Brittany Delgado and Brieana Delgado would have their collegiate wrestling success:
SCMAT Exclusive - Brittany Delgado and Brieana Delgado

In this decade, T.J. Dudley would became the most accomplished D1 wrestler out of SC:
SCMAT Exclusive - T.J. Dudley

In this decade, Clay Walker would become only the fifth wrestler in the nation to earn four NHSCA National Championships:
SCMAT Exclusive - Clay Walker

Let's take a look at this decade of SC high school wrestling

When SCMAT did an Exclusive series last year on the Greatest State Duals Finals ever, we ended up with 7 out of the 8 Finals being in the decade we are covering today.

Here was the criteria ... the State Duals Final had to:
"come down to the last weight class to determine the winner"
"be a come from behind win occurring in the last weight class of the match" or "a tiebreaker criteria win"
"the last weight class had to be wrestled (not forfeited)"

And here were the 7 State Duals Final matches that occurred in this decade (2010-2019):
Marion 2016 2A-1A State Champions
West-Oak 2011 3A State Champions
Loris 2010 2A State Champions
